Samuel F Kravetz Jr, 90, a retiree to Cedar City, Utah from Las Vegas, Nevada has passed away. He joined his beloved wife Marty of 61 years in the late hours of October 9, 2024.

Sam was born February 16, 1934 in South Lyon, Michigan to Pauline and Samuel F Kravetz Sr. He had one older sister Maryann.

Sam joined the United States Army in January 1955. He served his country with honor until January 1957. His patriotism was unmatched. He often recalled that his deployment to Germany decided the fate of his life. For towards the end of his service, he was rotated to Fort Collins, Colorado where he met the love of his life.

Sam married Martha Sue Schilling on June 22, 1957 in South Bend, Indiana.

They have 3 children; Frederick, Edward and Susan. 6 grandchildren; Michael, Melissa, Kyle, Matthew, Katelyn and Kelli. They also have one great grandson, Raiden.

Sam and Marty retired to Kannarraville, Utah in March 1990. They enjoyed RVing and serving their community. Both were founding members of “Ye Olde Catholic Thrift Shoppe” in Cedar City, Utah.

Sam also held numerous responsible positions within the Knights of Columbus in Cedar City, Utah. He was a Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator, Financial Secretary, District Marshall, and Color Corps Commander, to name just a few. The Sam Kravetz Sir Knight of the Year Award was initially given to Sam, and now, to later, recipients deemed to exemplify Sam’s level of service to the Fourth Degree and devotion to the Fourth Degree’s guiding principle of Patriotism.

Sam loved to build, fix, break and rebuild just about anything. He loved football, family, God and country. He enjoyed anything with wheels and a little horsepower.

He was incredibly kind, courageous and hardworking. He never met a stranger. To know him was to love him. He will forever be profoundly missed by his family and friends. We can’t wait to have another toddy with you, 10-4!

A celebration of his life will be a Memorial Mass held at Christ the King Catholic Church (690 S Cove Drive, Cedar City, Utah 84720) on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, Sam wanted donations to be made to either St. Martha’s Baby Basket Project or the Knights of Columbus in Cedar City.

Arrangements are under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. Online condolences can be made at www.mortuary.org.
