Julie Powell, beloved mother and grandmother, peacefully passed away in her home at the age of 84 on July 19th, 2024. She was born on January 30, 1940 to Frank & Vivian Andreason Santos.
Julie’s journey through life was marked by resilience, hard work, and a deep commitment to her family and community. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she graduated from South Sevier High School and embarked on a life filled with diverse experiences and achievements. Julie ventured to California where she, alongside her former husband, Ross Hatch managed a successful barbecue restaurant, they later divorced and she returned to her roots in Utah.
In Utah she found love once more and married Dick Powell in Milford, Utah. Together, they raised two daughters, Kim and Cindy, who brought immeasurable joy into her life. Starting again in Cedar City, Julie became a local legend for her versatility and work ethic. There was no challenge she couldn’t conquer: from waitressing, to working at the local IFA, to operating heavy machinery like the D8 Cat at the Cedar City landfill where she earned the endearing title of “The Queen of the Dump.” Julie’s Skills extended to lambing sheep for numerous sheepherders and contributing to the construction of WECCO, where she worked for 20 plus years. She was known as a hard worker to all who knew her. She loved Spending her time with her Arabian Horses, rock hounding, Sewing, and gardening on her farm.
Julie will be remembered as a woman of boundless determination and kindness. Her legacy lives on through her family and the countless lives she touched through her hard work and generosity. She was a jack of all trades, master of none. In her final days, Julie was surrounded by love, reflecting the profound impact she had on all who knew her. Her memory will forever be cherished by her family, friends and her animals she served so faithfully.
Julie is survived by her loving family: her brother Scott Santos; daughters Kim Ackroyd (Rory) and Cindy Hollinger (Gavin); grandchildren Josh Ackroyd, Kayla Christie, Jaden Ackroyd, Sadie Douglas, Ethan Hollinger, and Lexie Hollinger. She is preceded in Death by her parents, Vivian and Frank Santos, her brother Bob Santos, and her sister, Ginny Santos.
Funeral services to celebrate Julie’s life will be held at Cedar Valley Funerals (2086 North Main Street Cedar City, Utah on Thursday July 25, 2024 at 11:00 am. A viewing will also be held at the mortuary from 10:00 am to 10:45 am just prior to services. We love you Julie. Your spirit and legacy will continue to inspire us all. Interment will be at the Annabella Cemetery in Annabella, Utah under the direction of Cedar Valley Funeral and Cremations.
