On June 4, 2026, the Cedar City Senior Citizens Center received some much-appreciated assistance from the Cedar City Fire Department after recent high winds severely damaged the American flag flying outside the center.

The strong winds had shredded the flag and created a hole that caused it to become tangled around the top of the flagpole multiple times, making it impossible to lower from the ground. In response, the Senior Center contacted the Cedar City Fire Department for help.

Captain Travis Fails and Firefighter Cason Maxwell arrived with the department’s ladder truck and carefully prepared the area before beginning the operation. Using the ladder truck, the firefighters successfully freed the damaged flag and replaced it with a new one.

The rescue was a proud and meaningful moment for those who watched as the American flag was respectfully removed and replaced. Senior Center staff expressed their gratitude to Captain Fails, Firefighter Maxwell, and the entire Cedar City Fire Department for their service to the Senior Center and the community.
