Cedar City (Coal Creek Trail) parkrun closed out the year with impressive participation and a growing reputation as one of Cedar City’s most welcoming weekly community events.
The free, timed 5k held every Saturday morning has attracted walkers, runners, families, and visitors from the local area, across the US and from overseas. Attendance averaged 31 participants per week, with numbers climbing steadily throughout the year.
Event organizers say the mix of locals and visitors has become one of Coal Creek Trail parkrun’s defining strengths. Runners and walkers traveled from the UK, across Europe Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.
During 2025, there were 48 events, drawing over 500 finishers and supported by 71 volunteers throughout the year.
The year’s largest turnout came on November 27 Turkey Trot, when 138 participants gobbled up the trail.
Volunteers play a key role in the event’s success. With 71 individuals contributing time as event directors, marshals, timekeepers, scanners, and tail walkers. The event relies entirely on community support and an average of seven people have volunteered each Saturday morning.
Beyond the numbers, Coal Creek Trail parkrun hosted several memorable moments, including our first anniversary, holiday‑themed events, milestone celebrations, and post‑event gatherings for hot chocolate. These routines have helped build a sense of connection among participants.
As the new year begins, Coal Creek Trail parkrun plans to continue offering its weekly 5k, encouraging residents of all ages and abilities to take part.
The event is free and open to the public. Registration is available online, and participants need only bring a printed barcode to receive an official time.
