Targhee Lambson has been recognized as one of the nation’s best after earning FCS All-American honors from both the Associated Press and Stats Perform. Lambson’s historic season has not only garnered national acclaim but also earned him the United Athletic Conference (UAC) Offensive Player of the Year award and a spot on the UAC First Team All-Conference.

Coach DeLane Fitzgerald Said

“Targhee has earned every bit of this recognition. His talent is undeniable, but it’s his relentless determination and work ethic that set him apart. He’s a player who leads by example, and this All-American honor is a reflection of the effort and focus he brings to the field every single day.”

Lambson’s dominance on the field has been nothing short of remarkable. He led the entire FCS in rushing with 1,922 yards, finishing second in the nation with 23 rushing touchdowns. His stellar play propelled the Thunderbirds and rewrote the program’s record books. Lambson now holds single-season records for rushing yards (1,922), carries (320), and total points scored (142) while also tying the school record for rushing touchdowns in a season with 23.

For his outstanding performances, Lambson has been named one of three finalists for the prestigious Walter Payton Award—the FCS’s version of the Heisman Trophy—which recognizes the most outstanding offensive player in the country. Lambson will travel to Frisco, Texas, for the Stats Perform FCS National Awards Banquet on January 4, 2025, where the winner will be announced.

Lambson’s journey to the Walter Payton Award finalist list places him in elite company alongside Montana State quarterback Tommy Mellott and North Dakota State quarterback Cam Miller. Mellott, the Big Sky Offensive Player of the Year, has led his team to an undefeated season, while Miller boasts the nation’s best passer rating and completion percentage.

With All-American honors and a Walter Payton Award finalist nod to his name, Targhee Lambson’s legacy at Southern Utah is firmly cemented, and his incredible season will be remembered as one of the greatest in program history.
