The Southern Utah Book Festival will host its inaugural event October 14-19th, 2024 in partnership with the Utah Humanities Statewide Book Festival. Cedar City has been designated as a hub site. Events will be held throughout Historic Downtown and will be free to the public. For more information and a printable schedule go to www.southernutahbookfestival.org.
The Southern Utah Book Festival is designed to give you an opportunity to meet authors and illustrators, to explore genres, and to connect with other book enthusiasts. Attending discussion panels will allow you to hear about trends in the genre, how the authors/illustrators generate ideas for their books, and their writing or illustrating processes. Individual presentations will lend themselves to a more in-depth discussion about the topic and craft. Finally, if you want a more hands-on experience, you can attend our workshops and engage with poets and facilitators throughout the week. So many sessions exist to discover new authors and genres while reconnecting with favorites…and everything is free to the public!
During the week of October 14-19th, the Southern Utah Book Festival will give us time to listen to each other’s stories and share our compassion because of common themes and experiences. Reading is a solitary activity, but sharing the love of stories is a communal event. I hope that Cedar City, as a community, will join me in this celebration of literature.
