“Treasure the Memories,” was this year’s Iron County Fair and parade, and pirates and everything buccaneer-ish were definitely the center of it all in Parowan this year! Parowan’s Main Street filled with spectators to watch this very unique Labor Day Parade. The Iron County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard started the parade. Followed by “Grand Marshall” Frank Nichols riding in the back of a pick-up truck with his son, Burton.
Marching bands from all three Iron County high schools, and also, Southern Utah University, were amazing entertainment. Joining the parade was performances by cheerleaders and drill team members from Parowan, Cedar, Canyon View, and SUU.
Then there was the rodeo royalty riding horseback and 4H youngsters, adding to the parade, with their ‘Head, Heart, Hands, and Health’ motto displayed.
And we can’t forget all the vehicles seen: classic, vintage of all makes and models, off-road vehicles, vintage and new tractors, even some enormous gigantic farm machines. Several beautiful floats, including the Iron County Fair Royalty, was a labor of love and a lot of hard work.
Parades bring a sense of community to towns, letting neighbors and strangers alike come together for a celebration. Parades are a sure way to keep a town’s spirit high. Parades are a tradition which should not be forgotten.
You know the Parade Wave? The beauty queen or grand marshal waves to the cheering crowd, and then the crown waves back. It’s the bystanders’ way to say “I’m here, I support you!”
Cheering crowds. Colorful floats and balloon. Heart-pumping music and entertainment. There’s nothing quite like a parade-especially if you’re performing in one!
The Iron County Rodeo remains a cherished tradition every year. Spectators from near and far come to watch the exciting, heart-pounding PRCA Rodeo. There were 3 nights of pure entertainment, from bull riding to barrel racing, each event presented a different level of danger and adrenaline rush for both competitors and spectators.
This year’s Iron County Fair was a huge success!!
