CIVIL AIR PATROL-CEDAR MUSTANG COLOR GUARD2 min read

By May Hunter

The Cedar Mustang Composite Squadron had been around since the late 1900’s. They started as a Senior (Adult) squadron but evolved into a composite squadron (meaning both senior members and cadets) only a few years later. At its core, CAP is the volunteer civilian auxiliary of the Air Force and was founded in 1936 to help with war efforts during WWll. Nowadays, CAP provides a multitude of resources to adults and youth interested in making a difference in their communities through teaching leadership, aviation, emergency services, fitness, and character.

As a squadron they focus primarily on local emergency service missions, cadet character development, and color guard. The Color Guard has been incredibly active the past two years, continuously working to represent the United States, CAP, and their squadron. They present the colors for a multitude of events throughout the year, including Memorial Day, the annual Fourth of July parade, 9/11 remembrance events, and other national holidays. They also provide details for community and private events all around town such as monster truck rallies, opening ceremonies, and smaller gatherings. All of their 40+ members are volunteers and take extreme pride in their work, practicing together twice a week to endure that they provide the best performances possible.

Aside from their Color Guard endeavors, the Mustangs as a squadron meet weekly to practice and learn about all things development and military-oriented. They meet every Thursday from 6:30-8:30 P.M., at 2296 Aviation Way, Cedar City, Ut 84721. All anyone has to do to check them out is show up! Their squadron encourages anyone interested in joining to attend 3 meetings, no strings attached. Come and see what a typical meeting looks like, meet the cadets and senior members, and check out their facility. Once you have attended 3 meetings, further instructions on how to officially become a member of CAP will follow soon after.

To reach out to their squadron, please contact their Squadron Commander Major Jonathan Karpel, at ([email protected]), their Cadet Commander C/1st Lt Micah Rigby at ([email protected]).
