Former President Donald J. Trump was given a guilty verdict last Thursday, May 30th, for 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. This comes after a series of trials against President Trump that have not ended in a conviction. This is the first time in our nation’s history that a former U.S. President has been convicted on felony charges.
Senator Lee joined other senate Republicans in a statement issued May 31: “The White House has made a mockery of the rule of law and fundamentally altered our politics in un-American ways. As a Senate Republican conference, we are unwilling to aid and abet this White House in its project to tear this country apart. To that end, we will not 1) allow any increase to non-security related funding for this administration, or any appropriations bill which funds partisan lawfare; 2) vote to confirm this administration’s political and judicial appointees; and 3) allow expedited consideration and passage of Democratic legislation or authorities that are not directly relevant to the safety of the American people.” In addition to Senator Lee, this document was signed by Senators J.D. Vance, Tommy Tuberville, Eric Schmitt, Marsha Blackburn, Rick Scott, Roger Marshall, and Marco Rubio.
