Parowan Community Choir Presents ‘Weathering the Weather’1 min read

From Cami Cox,

PAROWAN – The fickle Southern Utah weather has become the subject of local jokes this month – spring sunshine one day, snow the next – so what better time for the Parowan Community Choir to sing songs about the weather?

Join the Parowan Community Choir for their annual spring concert on Sunday, April 21 at 7:00 p.m. in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints stake center, located at 90 S. Main St. in Parowan. The theme for this year’s concert is “Weathering the Weather,” and favorite stormy numbers like “Singin’ in the Rain” and “Dust in the Wind” will be on offer, along with brighter-weather tunes like “Over the Rainbow” and “Blue Skies.”

“Choosing a theme for a community choir concert is a little tricky. The goal is to pick something both the choir members and the community at large would appreciate,” said Jay Wilcken, Parowan Community Choir director. “When I chose ‘weather,’ I wasn’t prepared for the enthusiasm. Everyone I talked to had their own favorite. When I searched online, I found hundreds of songs about every type of weather event. It was difficult narrowing down the list. I’m sure that even now there will be some favorites we didn’t select. I’m sorry! Whatever your personal favorites might be, we hope we included some here you will enjoy.”

The concert, which is free to the public, will be emceed by Steve Decker, with Candy Wilson accompanying the choir on the piano.

The Parowan Community Choir invites all of Southern Utah’s music lovers to attend this enjoyable show. The choir is also seeking new members to participate in next year’s concert. Those interested in joining should contact Jay Wilcken at 435-477-8084.
