Michael Jay Lopour was born on May 16, 1968, in Mitchell, South Dakota, to Joseph J. and Brenda Lopour. The youngest of four sons, Mike grew up surrounded by family and sports, two passions that shaped his life.
At age four, his family relocated to Cedar City, Utah, where Mike attended East Elementary School and graduated from Cedar High School. An athlete from the start, he played little league football and baseball, and at Cedar High he lettered in football and wrestling. His athletic journey continued into college at Dixie Junior College and Southern Utah State College (now Southern Utah University), where he played football, wrestled, and competed in track and field as a hammer thrower. Mike earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Health and Physical Education from SUSC.
On September 16, 1995, Mike married Adria Goodsell, and together they welcomed three beautiful daughters: Samantha Catherine, Alexandria Lea, and Danielle Joe. His daughters were truly the light of his life, and he took immense pride in their accomplishments. The family made their home in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where Mike devoted his career to teaching and coaching at local high schools. During this time, he also earned a master’s degree from the University of Phoenix.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Brenda, and his oldest brother, Rock. He is survived by his father, Joe; brothers Dirk and Dave; and his three cherished daughters, Sammie, Alex, and Dani. He will also be deeply missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 from 6-8pm at Southern Utah Mortuary (190 N. 300 W, Cedar City, UT). Mike will be laid to rest at the National Bohemian Cemetery in Gregory, South Dakota. To share online condolences, please visit www.mortuary.org.
