Marilyn Prince

Marilyn Sorensen Prince, the second of three children of Charles Cole and Helen Yeates Sorensen was born in Logan, Utah February 18, 1939. She passed away at home in Cedar City October 27, 2025.

After Logan, she went with her military family to many places including Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, Cleveland, and North Carolina, but ultimately settled in Sacramento, California where she graduated from El Camino High School and worked at Mather Air Force Base. She graduated from Brigham Young University, where she met her eternal companion Gerald Williams Prince, from New Harmony Utah. They were married February 3, 1961 in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple.

Marilyn worked over 30 years for Cedar City as treasurer. She was meticulous and was very proud of having never failed an audit. She excelled within business and the community, serving as President of the Utah State Treasurers Association, the Southern Utah Women in Business Committee, as well as volunteering extensively with the Red Cross and at the hospital. She appreciated the opportunity to donate gallons of blood, and always encouraged her friends and family to follow suit.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was well known for her musical arrangements and efforts as a gifted organist. She also served at ward and stake level in activities, Relief Society, and Young Women.

Marilyn is the mother of three children, Gregory Sorensen Prince (Debra Bohne) of Ogden, Utah, NanciAnne (Jeffrey) Evans of Cedar City, Utah, and Michael Ameer (Bernadette Chappell) of Cedar City, Utah.

She is grandma to eleven grandchildren: Michael Ameer (Ambree), Ashley (Sean), Justin (Stephanie), Lindy (Brandt), Natalie (Gavin), Cason (deceased), Cordell (Michael), Lindsay, Jordan,

Marion, and Kaylee. She has eight great grandchildren: Flynn and Evelyn Prince, Grayson Evans, Sawyer, Sophia, Scarlett and Griffin Feltner, and Adeline Newcomb.

She is survived by her children and grandchildren, brother Jon (Karen) Sorensen of Roseville, California, and sister-in-law Nancy Sorensen of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald Williams Prince, grandson, Cason Dayanand Prince, and brother, Charles Cordell Sorensen.

A viewing will be held Thursday, November 6, 2025 from 6-8 PM Southern Utah Mortuary, 190 North 300 West, Cedar City, Utah.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025 at 11:00 am at the Mesa Hills Ward Chapel, 1925 W 320 S, Cedar City, UT 84720. A viewing will be held prior to the services from 9:30 – 10:30 am. Interment will be in the New Harmony, Utah Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
