Katrine Rowley passed away on June 2, 2026, at the age of 92. Katrine was born on December 15, 1933, in Parowan, Utah to Neta (Thornton) and Frank Eugene Taylor.
Katrine often shared childhood stories about working at the Taylor Café, run by her parents, on Parowan Main Street. She loved her parents and was always a daddy’s girl. She also had fond memories of her uncle Tom Taylor and visiting her Grandma Taylor. Her sister Cherie, older by seven years, became one of her best friends later in life.
Katrine married Carlyle Johnson and they had six boys: Ron, Dennis, Jerry, Tom, Steve, and Brian. The boys remember family trips to Lake Powell, Minersville Reservoir, and Navajo Lake.
Katrine’s family bonds only tightened after her divorce; her boys and their wives invited her into their homes, vacations, and celebrations: camping trips, Disneyland, Lagoon, a clogging trip to Tennessee, and continuing the family tradition of visiting Lake Powell.
Later in life, Katrine married Bob (Robert) Rowley, and they spent many years together. They enjoyed going on trips, often with her sister Cherie and her husband Norm Day.
Katrine enjoyed working at Northeast Furniture with the Hunter family. She then spent most of her career working in the office of Parowan High School. From this position, she was able to watch her grandchildren during their high school years. She worked with several principals, keeping them organized and in line, and developed lasting friendships with the PHS faculty and staff.
Katrine had a passion for music and singing, and she shared her talents with her community. She sang with the Parowan Community Choir for many years and especially enjoyed being part of the annual Christmas Cantata, often singing a solo. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Katrine served in many callings over the years, favoring those that involved music. She sang in the ward choir and was the ward chorister for many years.
She had a beautiful yard and rose garden, and she spent hours tending to her yard and pruning her roses. She also served the community to help beautify Parowan; she was a member of the Shade Tree Committee and worked in the community rose garden. Katrine also enjoyed spending time and “going for a coke” with her dear friends Janet, Mary Etta, Hettie Anne, and Debbie.
Katrine loved her large family and was dearly loved by them. For years, the whole family gathered in her home for Sunday dinners. Later, the house was packed every Christmas morning with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Family barbecues filled her backyard during the summer.
Katrine is survived by her six children: Ron (Debbie) Johnson, Dennis (Debbie) Johnson, Jerry (Ronda) Johnson, Tom (Kathy) Johnson, Steve (Celeste) Johnson, and Brian (Cecilia) Johnson, 22 grandchildren, and many great- and great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Cherie Day, her first husband Carlyle Johnson, her second husband Bob Rowley, her grandson Nathan Johnson, and her great-grandson McCabe Garfield.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Iron County Home Health, Marie and Cari, and others who assisted her in her home, Yahaira Vargas and Merilynn Allred. We would also like to thank Kristin Orton for years of beautiful hair.
