Glenna Jean Armstrong Peterson, 89, died peacefully in her home in Cedar City, Utah on August 13, 2025. She was born February 12, 1936 in Provo, Utah. She was the first of six children to Milton Glen Armstrong and Rhea Christena Erickson. When Glenna was 10 months old she moved to Ephraim, Utah where she spent a happy childhood.
Glenna was baptized and confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints when she was eight years old. As a child, Glenna was given the opportunity to take piano lessons. This led to many years playing the piano and organ in church, seminary, and primary. She also accompanied choirs and soloists. Glenna played drums and piano in a band in high school, sang in many choirs, and sang and danced in college musicals.
Glenna graduated as the class valedictorian in high school. She was an excellent writer and a published poet. She attended BYU and graduated in the top ten of her graduating class with a composite major in clothing, foods and nutrition, family living, and child care. She also obtained a teaching and vocational certificate. Upon graduation, Glenna taught elementary school in Centerville and then moved to Gunnison where she taught 4th grade.
Glenna met her sweetheart, Dale, when she was a junior in high school. They loved to attend dances and both were excellent dancers. Glenna married Dale for time and all eternity in the Manti Temple on November 26, 1958. They were married for 65 years. Together they raised five children and lived in Gunnison, Utah, McCall, Idaho, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Cedar City, Utah. Glenna worked as a teacher and taught elementary, home economics, music and piano. She was an excellent seamstress and tailor, sewing many formal dresses for her daughters and clothing for all of her children.
Glenna was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served many years as a Relief Society President, counselor, and teacher. Glenna and her husband, Dale were called on a Service Mission to oversee the Bishop’s Storehouse and served for seven years in that calling. Glenna was also a genealogist and spent many hours researching her ancestors and ensuring their temple work and personal histories were completed. She was always looking for ways to serve others and helped many people throughout her life.
Glenna is survived by her siblings Gerald, NaDean, Craig (Carol), Renee (Stanley), her children Regina (Galen), Leslie (Derrek), Randy (Kimberly), Troy (Kimberly), Shawn (Molly), 19 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Dale, her parents Milton and Rhea Armstrong, brother Moyle Armstrong, and sister-in-law Melody Armstrong.
