Facing the Bethesda (CA) Flames on Tuesday night, the Thunderbirds men’s basketball team came away with a dominating 107-54 victory in Cedar City.

The SUU men’s basketball team led from start to finish in a big win, and while the quality of the opponent must be considered, the T-birds will certainly be happy with a 3-0 start to the season.

Southern Utah ran out to a 10-0 lead and never looked back and are now off to their best start since 2018-19.

It took the T-birds just over 10 minutes to build the lead to 20 (26-6), and the home team cruised to a 45-18 lead into the halftime break.

The second period was even more lopsided, with SUU taking its first 30+ point lead at the 14:16 mark thanks to a Dominique Ford three-pointer (61-30).

Southern Utah extended its lead to 40 with just over nine minutes left (77-37), before pushing it up to 50 with 1:11 on the clock (105-54). The Thunderbirds added two more free throws in the final seconds to secure the 107-54 win.

The T-birds dominated in nearly every aspect of the game, shooting 48.6 percent from the field (36-of-74) while winning the battle in paint points (46-22), assists (22-7), steals (10-4), fast break points (50-9), and bench points (73-39).

16 different players suited up on the night for SUU, while 15 of them scored at least three points. Xavier Sykes led the T-birds in scoring with 12 points, and Brock Felder added 8 points and 7 rebounds in just 14 minutes.
