Cedar City joined communities around the United States that used community bike rides as an inclusive way to get out and exercise while reconnecting with neighbors and celebrating cultural diversity with a Cinco de Mayo Spring Fiesta!
What is a Slow Roll?
The Slow Roll initiates May as National Bike Month! To promote biking in and around Cedar City, the City’s Active Transportation Committee and Southwest Public Health Department set up a temporary bike path for the community.
All human-powered wheels and walkers are welcome. This included bicycles, tricycles, skateboards, big wheels, unicycles, scooters, strollers, rollerblades, e-bikes, etc. The only rule is to KEEP IT SLOW (and wear a helmet, of course!) Slow Roll is a monthly event. Their goal is to help improve the health and connectedness in Southwest Utah by promoting all forms of active transportation in a safe family environment. Get outside and join in the family fun. visit cedarcityut.gov for an event schedule.
Opening remarks by Mayor Garth Green started the kickoff for the Spring Fiesta and Slow Roll. Herencia Hispana performed and many others including: The Southern Utah Youth Choir, Jarana (from East Elementary), Danial Zambada u su Nuevo Komando, and Alta Elegancia, followed by a Dance Party with Juan 106 & DJ Azteca.
All in all the night was surprisingly beautiful, just a slight breeze to keep everyone feeling the excitement. Over 4,000 in attendance made it a night to remember. Next year this event promises to be even bigger and better.
