Connie (Blackwell) Lawrence passed away at the age of 83 on March 6, 2025 after battling cancer. Connie was born on March 30, 1941 to Earl and Eileen (Chaffee) Blackwell in Indianapolis, IN. Connie grew up in Indianapolis where she graduated from Broad Ripple HS in June 1959. She was a member of the National Honor Society and played viola in the HS orchestra all 4 years. She was a member of Meridian Street Methodist Church and active in choir and MYF. Connie graduated from Ball State Teachers College (Ball State University) in Muncie, IN in May 1963 with a BS in English/Speech. She taught English at Broad Ripple HS for the next two years.

Connie married Terry Lawrence, whom she had met at Ball State, on August 14, 1965. They first lived in Greenville, IL where their son James was born, and then lived in Springfield, IL where their daughter Ann was born. In April 1969, the family moved to Michigan where Terry was a research chemist for the Upjohn CO in Kalamazoo, MI. Connie was a member of First United Methodist Church in Kalamazoo where she taught Sunday School and volunteered at both church and her children’s elementary school. She was a Cub Scout Den leader and a Brownie leader. After her children were teenagers, she was the Career Center Coordinator at Portage Northern HS for 12 years and then a Media Center Assistant for 2 years before retiring in 1999.

Connie and Terry lived in western CO for a year before moving to Cedar City in June 2000. Connie was a member of Community Presbyterian Church and enjoyed playing in Bell Choir for 2 years and later singing in the choir. She volunteered at the Utah Shakespeare Festival for 4 years. She also enjoyed reading, sewing, hiking, and traveling. Connie and Terry traveled by car throughout the US and especially enjoyed the western states and Canada.

Connie is survived by her son Jim (CO), daughter Ann (CO), 2 grandchildren Sierra and Ryan, and 4 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Wayne (IN) and sister Rosalie (UT) and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Connie is immensely loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was known for her great joy and happiness.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held on May 3rd. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Death with Dignity or Compassion & Choices.
