CEDAR CITY – The eighth Groovefest American Music Festival will be joined by the ninth annual Cedar City Arts Festival and will be presented on June 25-26.

This weekend festival will provide great music and great visual arts in the beautiful Cedar City Main Street Park for all to enjoy!

Groovefest began in 2002 as an outdoor concert with a couple hundred attendees. Cedar City witnessed the largest Groovefest crowds at its seventh annual festival in 2008 with nearly 50,000 people estimated for the four-day happening.

The Cedar City Arts Festival began in 2001 on the grounds of the Utah Shakespearean Festival’s Randall Theatre and attracts more than 5,000 during the showing of fine arts and homemade crafts.

The committees of the annual Cedar City Arts Festival and the Groovefest organization have agreed to join forces in order to make both events bigger and more vibrant, bringing both performing and visual arts together.

“We wanted to be able to present the best of what each of us has to offer, all at the same time,” said Groovefest founder and director Tim Cretsinger. “Music and visual arts go hand in hand, so why not hold an event that features them together?”

The timing was right for both organizations to work together to help grow this festival into a major city- and state-wide attraction.

Todd Prince, organizer of the Cedar City Arts Festival, said “We have always included the musical arts into the Arts Festival as a way to involve all of the arts. The connection to Groovefest allows us to showcase both the visual and musical arts in a fun and exciting atmosphere.”

Groovefest and the Arts Festival will join in the marketing of the two festivals thereby attracting even more attention to Cedar City from outlying areas. Advertising will extend well beyond the limits of Iron and Washington counties, into Nevada, Arizona, Salt Lake City and Idaho.

These highly anticipated yearly events would not be possible without the revenue generated from their sponsors, and the only way that they have been able to continue for so long is through their generosity.

“When a potential advertiser or sponsor joins us, they are supporting both organizations and the arts,” Cretsinger said. “This year we hope to retain all of our past supporters as well as welcome new ones.”

Groovefest American Music Festival and the Cedar City Arts Festival are committed to present and celebrate all forms of art and artists in a beautiful and unique Cedar City setting for residents and visitors alike.
