CEDAR CITY—Calvary Chapel Cedar City will host its annual Operation Christmas Child (OCC) Packing Party on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 1-5 p.m. at 101 E. Nichols Canyon Road. The packing party is open to everyone in the community.

Operation Christmas Child is a program put on by Samaritan’s Purse that takes shoeboxes loaded with gifts for kids all around the world for Christmas. These boxes include items such as toys, hygiene items, school supplies, etc., and they go to children in poverty.

Calvary Chapel hosts this packing party to encourage people to participate in the program. All the supplies for the boxes are included, and those wishing to participate pick a box and fill it at the packing party.

The event is structured like an open house. Those who have not been involved in OCC watch a short video that explains the process and why people take the time to pack these shoeboxes. They then take a shoebox and decide what age range and gender of child they want to pack a shoebox for. The supplies for the shoeboxes are separated out into different rooms, and people load their shoeboxes from the supplies in the rooms.

If possible, those loading the shoeboxes are asked to pay the $7 shipping if they are able. Those who pay the shipping will be fed a light lunch by the coordinators. There is also an option for tracking the shoebox if the packers wish to see where it is delivered.

“We love giving families the opportunity to come together to do something for someone far away,” said Terri Carroll, Southern Utah Area Coordinator for OCC. “The most important part is to pray for the child getting that shoebox. God will lead each person packing the shoeboxes and will move them to pack what is needed in the boxes.”

For more information or to donate to the event, contact Calvary Chapel at 435-867-8188 or visithttps://www.samaritanspurse.org/occ.
