CEDAR CITY- The Southern Utah softball team and head coach Tom Gray have announced the signing of Vanessa Strong ahead of the 2019 season.
Strong is from Oakley, California where she has been a four-year varsity softball player for Freedom High School. During her tenure at FHS, Strong has appeared in 67 games, starting 63 of them in the circle for the Falcons. She currently holds a 1.65 career ERA and has four no-hitters and two perfect games to her credit.
Strong has helped to lead FHS to three consecutive Bay Valley Athletic League championships and was named to the BVAL First Team in each season. She has also been the BVAL strikeout leader for the past three seasons.
Strong was named BVAL MVP in 2016, along with being named San Francisco Chronicle Metro Player of the Year, East Bay Times Player of the Year, and Cal-Hi Sports Sophomore Player of the Year in the same season. Last season Strong was named to the FloSoftball All-American First Team, the Bay Area News Group First Team, and the Cal-Hi Sports All-State Team.
