CEDAR CITY- The Southern Utah women’s basketball team fell to the Eastern Washington Eagles Wednesday night inside the America First Event Center 70-49.
The Thunderbirds kept the Eagles at bay in the first half, holding them to 25 points on 42.3 percent shooting. Natalie Sanchez went 3-4 from the floor and had 10 first half points. Southern Utah held a 29-25 lead over EWU heading into the halftime break.
The T-Birds couldn’t contain the Eagles in the third quarter, as Eastern Washington came out of the break and more than doubled their score, putting up 28 points in the quarter. They continued their hot streak into the fourth, scoring 17 points while holding the Thunderbirds to just six. A seven minute scoring drought sealed the Thunderbirds’ fate as they lost to the Eagles 70-49.
Breanu Reid led the Thunderbirds with 11 points on the night.
EWU’s Delaney Hodgins led all scorers with 37 points.
The Lady T-Birds will play their final regular season game Friday as they host the Idaho Vandals.
