Falcons split pair of soccer matches

CEDAR CITY–The Canyon View Falcons played their first home matches of the 2018 girls soccer season and came away with mixed results to close out the non-region schedule.
On Aug. 16, the Falcons were upended by the East Leopards in an 8-1 loss. The visitors led 5-1 at the half and cruised from there, giving up an own goal as the Falcons’ only tally.
CV would rebound two days later and get past Hunter in a 4-3 win that improved them to 2-2-0 on the year overall. Morgan Haag scored twice for the Falcons, while Addie Newman and Sydnee Evans added one goal apiece in handing the 6A Wolverines its first loss of the season (2-1-1).
The Falcons opened Region 9 play on the road at Snow Canyon on Tuesday in a game that was too late for press deadline.
Cedar also split its matches of the week. The Lady Reds seized control early with five first-half goals in a 6-0 shutout over Parowan, but they fell to 1-3-0 on the year after dropping a 3-1 decision to Wasatch. The Wasps scored twice in the second half to break a 1-1 tie.
Lexi Bird had a hat trick for Cedar in the win over Parowan, and Logann Laws scored a goal in both games for the Lady Reds. They will open Region 9 play at home against Pine View on Thursday at 4 p.m.
Parowan fell to 2-2-0 on the year after dropping a 1-0 decision at Juab on Aug. 18. Senior Reggie Myers had the only goal for the Wasps in the second half for the victory.
The Rams hosted North Sanpete at home Tuesday and will play South Sevier on Thursday.
