The Canyon View Falcons knew that two tough road games would be a challenge as it looked to make a move up the Region 9 standings.
Thanks to two big comeback wins on the road, the Falcons made their intentions to compete known loud and clear.
Brantzen Blackner scored 25 points, and CV got the week started Jan. 24 by wiping out a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter and pulling off a 55-50 win over the Desert Hills Thunder in St. George. The Falcons put up 24 points as a team in the final eight minutes to come away with the key win.
Fellow senior Toby Potter added 11 points for the Falcons – including one of the team’s six 3-pointers – and they held the Thunder to just nine points in the fourth.
CV hit the comeback trail in the third quarter two nights later as they rallied again to beat Hurricane 55-49 and move above .500 in Region 9 play at 4-3. The Falcons trailed the Tigers 21-15 at the half, but went on a 25-11 surge in the third to move in front by eight before holding on.
Blackner had a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds for CV in the win and Trevor Farrow added 15, all on 3-pointers. Hurricane got 23 points and 12 rebounds from state scoring leader Jackson Last, but fell into a tie with Canyon View for thrd in region at 4-3, a game behind Desert Hills.
The Falcons will travel to Cedar for a 7 p.m. game tonight, then host Dixie on Friday, also at 7 p.m.
