With the new season in the new-look Region 9 closing in, the Canyon View Falcons knew the chances to make tweaks and adjustments would be limited.

If the first two games from last week were an indication, the Falcons are ready for their new status in the 4A ranks and return to the Region 9 family.

CV opened the 2017 season with a pair of road wins, a 1-0 victory at Hunter on Aug. 10 and an 8-0 shutout at North Sanpete on Aug. 11. Mia Smith had the lone goal in the opening half against the Wolverines, and junior Morgan Haag had six goals in the Falcons’ rout over their former Region 12 foe.

Tylee Bulloch scored the other goals for CV in the win over North Sanpete, and Jessica Hinck started the season with a pair of clean sheets in goal. The Falcons played their lone home preseason game Aug. 15 against Beaver, but it was too late for press deadline.

Canyon View opens its return season in Region 9 on the road at Hurricane on Aug. 22.

Cedar opened its 2017 season with a pair of losses – a 4-2 decision to Spanish Fork at home on Aug. 10 and a 2-0 shutout at Viewmont the following day. Julia Hunt and Lauren Craft scored in the first half for the Lady Reds, but the Dons matched that output after 40 minutes and broke the tie with two more goals in the second half to win.

Sailor Ufftenf and Sydney Anderson scored for Viewmont and Annie Winchester came through with the clean sheet to shut out the Lady Reds. Cedar travels for two more road games this week against Wasatch on Friday and at Bonneville on Saturday before starting Region 9 play at Desert Hills on Aug. 22.
