The Cedar National majors softball team had only one truly rough spot at the Utah All-Star Tournament last Thursday. After giving up four runs in the top of the second inning, head coach Aaron Wheelwright called the group over for a simple message.

“I said ‘we aren’t going to win this just by showing up,’” he said.

Cedar National would score four runs in the bottom of the second inning to snap a tie, and they went on to a 15-5 victory in four innings over Snow Canyon to win the Utah All-Star Tournament title last Thursday. The team earned a trip to San Bernardino, Calif., for the Little League West Regional that begins Saturday at 6 p.m. against a team from Northern California.

Pitcher Payton Lister allowed only one more run to Snow Canyon over the final two innings, and Cedar National swept all of its tournament games via the 10-run rule.

The West Regional will consist of three three-team pods. After two games, the teams will be seeded for an elimination tournament and the championship game will be played July 28. Follow the action online at llbws.org by clicking on “Little League Softball” under the “All Tournaments” tab.
