With the ESPN cameras rolling at the Little League Softball World Series quarterfinals, Cedar National had plenty of strong moments in its game against Waco, Texas on Aug. 14.
In the end, the Southwest champion proved to be too much.
Waco scored twice in the third inning to break a tie and added three insurance runs in the top of the fifth to secure a 7-3 victory over Cedar National in Portland, Ore. and advance to the semifinals of the elimination bracket.
After coming up with an 8-1 win over Victoria, British Columbia to reach the elimination tournament, Cedar National fell behind before they took their first turns at the plate. Waco scored twice in the top of the first, but CN answered with two in the bottom of the second.
Cedar National loaded the bases with nobody out in the inning, but Lili Vasi grounded into a double play that left runners at second and third. Madison Fuller came through with a single that drove in two runs and tied the game.
Waco reclaimed the lead with two runs in the top of the third, but Cedar National responded once more and scored once in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single from Kylee Wheelwright. Cedar National would have only one base runner the rest of the way as Waco put together its rally in the fifth to earn the win.
Waco outhit Cedar National 13-7, and both sides made one error.
Cedar National closed its run at the World Series with a 2-1 victory over Bacolod City, Philippines. Gwen Dailey drove in what proved to be the winning run in the top of the fourth with an RBI single that scored Vasi, who drew a walk with one out.
Kenlee Clove and Michaela Whitehair had two hits apiece in the victory.
