CEDAR CITY– The Thunderbird men’s tennis program and head coach Sadhaf Pucher have announced the signing of Keonho Shin to a National Letter of Intent.
Shin, who is from Korea, is currently living and competing in Japan. He is ranked ninth in Japan in singles competition, and 20th in doubles.
He will come to Cedar City with an ITF Junior Ranking of 473, and a UTF of 12.65. That makes him the highest-rated recruit to join the T-Bird men’s tennis program. He also reached the quarterfinals at the Japanese National Championship.
“Keonho will be what we need to take this program to the next level,” Pucher said. “He believes in having a strong work ethic and wants to improve in college. We are honored to have him commit to Southern Utah and we will guide him to have success academically and athletically.”
The Thunderbirds are coming off the best season in program history. The team finished the 2018 season with a 15-10 record and qualified for the Big Sky Championship Tournament for the first time since their inception.
