For the Cedar City Arts Council
The four stated goals of the Cedar City Arts Council—-Advocacy, Appreciation, Education, and Support—-sometimes combine to help us form partnerships with community projects in a manner that truly fulfills the purpose of the Council. Such was the case when last spring the Council happily awarded a $400 mini-grant to an art education series at North Elementary School. After two successful workshops in the spring, the organizer of the series, Dawn Aerts, hopes to provide two more sessions in the fall with the help of local artists.
The North Elementary School series began last spring with a basic Studio Series for Kids. A second series focused on the work of “Old World” artists like Picasso, van Gogh, and Renoir.
The Fall Art Studio “Meet the Masters” for beginners and advanced students is hoping to include the talents of six local artists who will introduce elementary school students to the basics of drawing, pastels, charcoal, and watercolor painting this fall at the newly-opened North Elementary School in Cedar City.
Series One will be an introduction to fine arts in basic drawing, pastels, and watercolor painting. Series Two will focus on the artistic background of the great painters with time for experiential drawing and painting themes.
Local painters Barbara Prestwich and Dawn Young will share their time and talent in the after-school program which takes place in one-hour classes to be held on Wednesday afternoons at North Elementary School.
The project needs additional artists who will volunteer their time for this eight-week series. Artists who wish to participate or who have questions about the project, can contact Dawn Aerts at (435) 705-5020 , or email email@example.com.
