To the Editor:

My name is Ammon Schulthies. I live on a small farm in Enoch. I am 14 years old and I go to Iron County Commonwealth School where I learn about our country’s Constitution and the way of different types of government and how they work.

I want to talk to you folks about teens in Iron County. I know some great kids and not so good ones. What I would like to see is teens learning about their country’s government and the Constitution.

I have met some people who don’t know what our Constitution is about. I love my rights. I like to be able to vote for my leaders, but what we need is leaders to go by our Constitution though they don’t fully because people don’t understand why our forefathers created such a document.

They don’t know why they pledged their lives for the sake of America. The Constitution teaches how the government should work and it sets principles that we follow by.

In a book “The Five Thousand Year Leap” you will find such principles and I will tell you one. It says that the proper role of government is to protect equal rights, not provide equal things.

We all should know that the government’s role is to make laws that protect our rights. We should know that our forefathers did not pledge their lives and everything they had to have this country turn into a socialist communist country. That was not their intention. They saw other countries they did not like what they saw so they made their own government.

Well I hope I haven’t said too much, but I hope you folks understand what I have said. I love our country. I love the Constitution. God bless you and America.
