Clayton James (Jim) Turner passed away at his home Feb. 8, 2010. Jim was born to Clayton G. Turner and Anna Hayden Turner Nov. 24, 1942 in Murray, Utah.

He was raised in Midvale, where he worked the beet farms in the summer. Jim was recognized for being the All-Around Athlete at Jordan High School. He attended the University of Utah on a baseball scholarship.

Jim married the love of his life, Judy Louise Maxwell, March 22, 1962 in Granger, Utah. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan, Utah Temple on April 12, 1963.

Jim and Judy have lived in Parowan for 30 years. Their children and grandchildren are Jory and his daughters Jordan, Brittany (Josh) Evans, Jake and Carson; Jill Leslie (Lee) and children Kenny (Brittney) and Gunner, Jake (Mandy), Madison and Turner; Jayley Griffin (Gaden) and children Gentry (Jessica), Jayden and Aubrey; Jason (Stacey) and children Clayton, Owen and Isaac; Jeremy (Cindy) and children Hayden, Brinley, Regan and Keaton; Justin (Sharline) and children Mackay and Tyler; Joshua (Kristin) and children Brianna, Max, Alex, Joseph and Ashlyn.

He is also survived by his brother Ronald Turner (Susan), and his sister Carolyn (Clair) Baldwin. Jim is preceded in death by his parents.

Jim was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all his life, becoming a High Priest at the age of 23. He served in various Bishoprics in the Granger area.

Jim was a Utah Highway patrolman for 21 years. He then worked as the Chief of Police for Southern Utah University for 14 years. He worked in law enforcement as deputy sheriff/baliff up until the morning he passed.

He and Judy enjoyed traveling to Ireland, England, Nauvoo, and the Mayan Riviera during their marriage. Perhaps his most cherished traveling was done in the hills surrounding Parowan with his grandkids.

Services were Friday, Feb. 12 at the Parowan Stake Center, 87 W. Center St. Viewings were Thursday evening at the Parowan Stake Center and Friday before the funeral service. Interment was in the Parowan City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. Online condolences can be sent at www.southernutahmortuary.com.
