Wasatch took home the 3A state basketball championship after trashing Judge Memorial 45-24. Cedar did not manage a win.
Last Thursday, the Redmen faced off against Emery and seemed destined to win as they maintained a lead for the first three quarters thanks to an impressive 100 percent accuracy at the free throw line and Brandon Garrett’s team-high score of 12 points.
The fourth quarter belonged to Emery, however, as they scored 12 while allowing only 2 from Cedar.
This loss put Cedar to the losing bracket where they faced Region 9 rival Desert Hills in what could have been the most exciting game of the season.
In a game of back and forth ball that never allowed either side a comfortable lead cushion, it was literally anybody’s game up to the last second.
Kyler Nelson hit 10 along with Eric Nakken who also claimed a couple of 3-pointers. Desert Hills’ Tanner Atkin lead his team with 12.
Even the foul shot average was nearly identical, with Desert Hills managing 75 percent to Cedar’s 74.2 percent.
The end came as Cedar’s last second shot bounced off the rim for a heartbreaking loss with the final score of 45-46 allowing Desert Hills to go on to take the sixth place spot.
Cedar ends its season with 9 wins to 13 losses.
