CEDAR CITY— On Thursday, Sept. 14 at 11:30 a.m., Tony Award-winner and poet, Andrew “Lemon” Andersen will be speaking at Southern Utah University. This event is to be the first in the 2017-2018 season of SUU’s premiere event series A.P.E.X.
Andersen’s presentation is entitled, “When Life Gives You Lemon.” This event will be hosted in The Great Hall in The Hunter Conference Center on SUU’s campus. A screening of Lemon’s self-titled film, Lemon, will be shown near the time of the event; please check www.suuapex.com for details. Both presentations are free and open to the public.
Lemon is a writer and performer who has been active in all areas of the live performing arts. Lemon has appeared on HBO’s Russell Simmons Presents: Def Poetry Jam eight times, more than any other poet on the show. He also has performed on Broadway as an original cast member of the related project Russell Simmons Presents: Def Poetry Jam on Broadway where he won a Tony Award for his writing and performance. Lemon has also performed include the Apollo Theater, Hollywood’s Kodak Theater, Nuyorican Poets Café, and the Chicago Theater.
During his career, Lemon has taught many artist workshops at colleges and universities across the nation, including Princeton, Harvard, and University of Massachusetts. His performance training was guided by the master performer Wynn Handman during performances and residencies at Carnegie Hall.
As a writer, Lemon has authored several books including Ready Made Real: Poems, County of Kings, and Straightrazor: Poems. Some of these titles will be on sale at the event after Lemon’s presentation.
