CEDAR CITY–Samuel Dodd and his team from Stratum Real Estate hosted and sponsored “Gift of Shoes” at Famous Footwear last Friday afternoon.

The event was designed to help students starting school be prepared and confident for the beginning of the school year. Dodd and his team purchased 83 pairs of shoes for underprivileged children in Iron County who were recommended by various agencies.

Famous Footwear store manager Chastity Moses said the store wanted to help with this event to show support to the community.

“We are participating because we love our community, we want to let people know we’re here, we’re available, we’re a one-stop shop … everyone can come in and find stuff that they are going to absolutely love and enjoy,” she said. “We want to make sure that we’re giving what we can and if this is one of the events we can put on then we’re absolutely going to do our best to cater to anybody who needs our help.”

Dodd said he and his team wanted to do something to give back and the idea for this event came while brainstorming some of the issues that kids in the community might be facing.

“A lot of kids don’t have new shoes or new school clothes to start the year off like some of the more well-off kids so our idea was to help those kids get a new pair of shoes so they could feel good about going to school and starting the new year,” Dodd said.

Trish Zerkle, a member of Dodd’s team, also said Gift of Shoes was intended to help students go into the new school year strong.

“The beginning of the school year is already intimidating as it is,” she said. “So we want to help put them in a position of strength and feeling good about themselves.”
