Burr joins SUU’s Community Enrichment Team


CEDAR CITY–Southern Utah University’s Office of Community and Academic Enrichment has promoted of Jessica Burr to Assistant Director. She started in her new role in July and is motivated to build community relationships and further develop the Professional Development program within the office.

Burr previously worked at SUU as Program Coordinator for Pre-Professional Health Students, as a Student Success Advisor for the College of Science and Engineering and as an Admissions Recruiter and Event Coordinator.

As part of CAE’s mission, Director Melynda Thorpe likes to be involved in as many community events as possible, such as the Larry H. Miller Utah Summer Games Golf Tournament & Party in the Park, SUU Aviation’s Red Sky Rally & Fourth of July/ Fireworks Party in the Hangar, the 21st Annual Rotary July Jamboree and the upcoming Cedar Music Fest.

As the current volunteer coordinator for the Tour of Utah local organizing committee, as well as previous experience coordinating events with SUU’s Festival of Excellence, Day in the Parks, Outdoor Nation Campus Challenge and Achievement of the Year Award winner at the 2017 Thunderbird Awards, Burr is a perfect fit for her new job at SUU CAE, Thorpe said.

Along with further developing SUU’s Community Education Program, Burr will also be helping build the university’s new Summer Experience program designed to bring culture-minded tourists to experience Cedar City in the summer, learn about the magnificent scenery in the parks surrounding the community, to attend the Utah Shakespeare Festival and more.

Burr earned her Masters of Professional Communication degree from SUU in 2017. Originally from Rock Springs, Wyoming, and Slaterville, Utah, she moved to Cedar City permanently in 2011 and enjoys paddle boarding, camping, and playing golf.
