Breaking: Drowning victim at Lake Powell believed to be from Cedar City

Rangers at the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area have reported that a man who drowned yesterday in Lake Powell in Warm Creek Canyon was from Cedar City. His name has not been released as of 4 p.m. on Thursday. Dispatch received a call of a possible drowning victim Wednesday morning and sent rangers to the scene. They reported that the victim, a 47-year-old male, was attempting to retrieve a boat anchor in 10 feet of water about 30 feet off shore. He was reportedly not wearing a life jacket. When he failed to resurface, family members dove into the water in an attempt to rescue him but were unsuccessful. National Park Service rangers retrieved the anchor line and discovered the victim entangled in the line. Resuscitation efforts began at Wahweap Marina and the victim was transported by ambulance to Page Hospital where he was declared deceased. More information will be forthcoming and the case is under investigation.
