Dear Family, Friends, and Acquaintances, I, Valerie Joy North, left this life on March 29, 2018, after battling valiantly against a severe lung disease. My life was not as long as I may have wished, but the time I enjoyed here was precious.I was born to James and Alberta Williams Breckenridge on September 29, 1949, in Buffalo, New York.I met and married Mark Ruhlman, and though that marriage later ended in divorce, my greatest treasures came from that union: Eric, Amy, David, Mathieu, and Laura.

Life brought me to Cedar City, Utah, where I discovered another treasure: Don North. We celebrated my birthday by getting married on September 29, 2001. We were later sealed together on December 13, 2006. Our seventeen years of marriage were truly wonderful—never a harsh word or an argument.

To me, the most important thing in life was family: Don, my children, and my grandchildren. I loved sending birthday cards every year to let them know of my love for them.

Reading also brought me a lot of joy in this life. I especially enjoyed church books and dreamed of one day travelling to all of the Church historical sites.

Another of my great joys in life was working with many wonderful people as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I worked for LDS Social Services for a time and then opened my own private practice.I loved to serve the Lord and appreciated the many opportunities I was given to serve in callings in the Church. In my last few years I grew to love genealogy and my own family history. I sought out my ancestors and was able to submit hundreds of names to have their temple work done for them. I was honored to be recognized by the Church offices for my efforts in name submissions.

I will miss my sweetheart, Don North, and my children Eric(Shannon) Ruhlman, Amy (Donnie) Doll,David (Rachel) Ruhlman, Mathieu (Robin) Ruhlman and Laura Ruhlman; my stepchildren, KaylaNorth, Jessica North, and Hannah North; my wonderful 11 grandchildren; and my sister Melanie (Rich)Stefani. I rejoice in the opportunity to see my parents once again. My family and I are grateful to the IHC Hospice team and the Mountain View Ward for their dedicated and committed service and for their tender care for me and Don.

I invite you to meet my wonderful family as they celebrate my life on Friday, April 6, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mountain View Ward (1120 West Greens Lake Drive, Cedar City, Utah). A viewing will be held at the church on Friday from 9:30-10:30, just prior to the services. Interment will be in the Parowan City Cemetery under the direction of Affordable Funeral Services (435)586-3456.
