Mark Gordon Steorts passed away peacefully surrounded by family Sunday January 21, 2018 due to complications of kidney disease. Mark was born on November 25, 1955 to Donald and MaryLou Burt Steorts in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He married Dana Kaye Barton in 1980, together they had their son Shay. They later divorced.
Most of his youth was spent in the great outdoors. He loved camping, fishing and being on top of Beaver Mountain. Harvesting timber was always exciting. Loud chain saws, loading logs on the big trucks developed Mark’s love for wood working and construction work. He built multiple custom homes for Beaver Mountain Resort, St. George and surrounding area. He was considered an excellent framer and master carpenter. Later in life Mark continued to enjoy the great outdoor life spending all his spare time on his mountain property with his best friend Murray. He also enjoyed music, many friendships and helping others in his adult life.
Mark enjoyed teasing the nursing staff and physicians at the dialysis center in Cedar City, Utah. He could remember most all of their names and was so grateful for their dedication and compassion that they showed him through the years. He often choked up when speaking about their kindness.
He is survived by his son Shay and two grandsons; brothers, James, and Pat (Rhonda) Lance, sister Lessy Ann (Lyle), and many nieces and nephews.
Mark is preceded in death by his mother Mary Lou, sister Penny, son Aaron and daughter Sarha.
A memorial will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Southern Utah Mortuary in Cedar City, Utah.
The family would like to especially thank Iron Mission Dialysis Center, Intermountain Health Care for many years of compassionate and professional care given to Mark. We are truly grateful for Utah Valley Hospice
