Gene Allen Brunner

Gene Allen Brunner, age 78, passed away peacefully January 22, 2018. He was born November 3, 1939, in Waukesha, Wisconsin to Clarence and Esther (Beilke) Brunner.

Gene was raised in Waukesha, Wisconsin, where his love of hunting, fishing, and nature began. In 1953 his family moved to Norwalk, California. He was in the first graduating class from Artesia High School in 1957. He then attended Mt. San Antonio Junior College and received his AA Degree. Gene joined the Air Force and went to Navigator Training School in Harlingen, Texas. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force 1962. Gene returned to southern California and joined the Ironworkers union as an apprentice ornamental Steel and Ironworker. He installed the huge glass panels on the exterior of high-rise buildings. He married P. Jean Mills in 1965. They divorced in1974.

Gene purchased a home in Cedar City in 1988. After retiring from the Ironworkers in 1993, he moved to Cedar City permanently. He worked for 10 years at Ace Hardware in the gun department. He was living the dream—hunting and fishing in the beautiful mountains he loved. He was active in the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and the Trinity Lutheran Church. He was also an avid Green Bay Packers backer. Gene was a kind, loving man with a bit of a gruff exterior. His humor and wit endeared him to all those who truly knew him.

Gene is survived by his sister, Susan (Roger) Greene; her daughters Lori (Eric) Loyd and Michelle (Richard) Pino; 7 nieces and nephews; and step-daughters, Pamela Mills DeForrest, Sheryl Mills, and Debra Mills Besardini.  He will be missed by many other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at 1 p.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church (410 E 1935 N,) in Cedar City. A reception in his honor will be held in the church social hall immediately following the service.
